Joey Votto calls out Cardinals fans after Reds’ four-game sweep in St. Louis

“It’s kind of nice to go at their road ballpark and let them have it," Votto said. "We had some people sweeping brooms and s–t like that while we were leaving. So, how’d you like that? How’d you like that?”

The series between the NL Central rivals obviously was a huge one, and it marked the first time the Reds have notched a four-game sweep in St. Louis since 1990. While the Reds remain in fourth place with a 28-30 record following Tuesday’s 5-1 loss at home to the Brewers, it helped close the gap with the third-place Cardinals (31-30).

What’s more, there already was some bad blood between the teams entering the series due to a bench-clearing scuffle during a game in April.

The Reds first baseman has a colorful history of being something of a villain when it comes to opposing fan bases. While the slugger wasn’t on the field for the Reds’ four wins in St. Louis, one can only imagine how he would have conducted himself if he had the opportunity to engage with the Cardinals fans in question as his team put the finishing touches on this past weekend’s sweep.
