Ketel Marte suffered a left ankle contusion in an ugly-looking collision with Garrett Stubbs in Saturday’s 11-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. After the game, both Marte and manager Torey Lovullo said the plan was to have him sit on Sunday and get him back in the lineup on Monday.
The Diamondbacks have published their lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rockies, with Marte batting second and playing second base.

It is obviously good news that the Diamondbacks’ MVP candidate is playing two games after getting rolled up on the second base bag. Marte leads all National League players with 6.1 bWAR and third in fWAR at 5.4. He’s batting .299 with 30 home runs, 81 RBI, and 81 runs scored. FanGraphs rates his offense to be 52% better than the league-average player with a 152 wRC+.
The team had a few injury scares in their series win over the Phillies, with Zac Gallen and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. joining Marte as players who left games over the weekend. In all three cases, they ended up being nothing more than scares.
