The San Diego Padres are going to go through change this offseason. It’s just a matter of if Jayce Tingler is included in that change. Tingler is in his second year with the ball club and is leading a team that has vastly underperformed, which has understandably led to questions regarding his job status.

Atlanta Braves third base coach Ron Washington finished as the runner-up in the Padres managerial race before the 2020 season. He was in San Diego coaching the Braves against the Friars this past weekend and a video was posted on Instagram of Washington chatting with other Atlanta coaches along with Padres first base coach Wayne Kirby.

As you can see in the video, the comment attached with the video said “Hire This Man Please”, referring to the fan wanting Washington hired as the next skipper of the Padres assuming a move is made.

Manny Machado liked this video, which leads us to believe he is open to Washington being his next manager. Interestingly enough, Kevin Acee reported a couple weeks back that there were some players who didn’t even want Tingler hired as the club’s manager in the first place. Since Washington was a finalist in the last manager hiring process, it’s valid to wonder if Machado wanted Washington hired over Tingler.

If Tingler loses his job, Machado should be one of the players A.J. Preller speaks to about who would be the best leader for the clubhouse moving forward. Based on Machado liking that Instagram video, it looks like he’ll advocate for an experienced manager who commands the respect of the veterans on the roster.
