Marlins reportedly asking Mets fans to fill ballpark for Braves series

The Miami Marlins began Tuesday at 63-90 and in fourth place in the National League East standings as they attempt to essentially run out the clock on the 2022 MLB season.

It appears some within the organization found an interesting way to try to fill LoanDepot Park during the campaign-closing series against the division-rival Atlanta Braves from Oct. 3-5.

According to the Fish Stripes and SNY Mets Twitter accounts, individuals who recently purchased tickets through the Marlins received an email on Tuesday with a message urging fans of the New York Mets to buy tickets and root against the Braves in-person next week:

The first-place Mets are hosting the Marlins on Tuesday and Wednesday and began the evening hours holding a slim one-game lead over the second-place Braves in the division standings. Atlanta is playing at the Washington Nationals on Tuesday and Wednesday before it returns home to potentially welcome the Mets to town.

The word "potentially" is added there because Hurricane Ian remains on track to impact the Atlanta region on at least Friday when the Mets and Braves are due to begin a pivotal three-game tilt at Truist Park. Per Danny Abriano of SNY, MLB had not yet elected to move one of those contests to Thursday when both the Braves and Mets are off as of early Tuesday night. It's unclear if the league would relocate the series to an alternate site because of the storm.

As for the Marlins, ESPN stats note that they're 29th out of 30 clubs in attendance and are averaging just 11,158 fans per game this year. Thus, they have little to lose in letting Mets fans turn LoanDepot Park into a temporary home during the first week of October.
