Mets have concerns over Carlos Correa's physical

Just when you thought the Carlos Correa storyline had reached its conclusion, it might have yet another twist.

According to a report from the Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Dan Hayes on Saturday, the New York Mets are now expressing some concerns over Carlos Correa's physical, which would put their monster 12-year deal in jeopardy.

This comes after Correa had a long-term deal with the San Francisco Giants fall apart at the last minute over concerns with his physical, paving the way for Correa and the Mets to agree to a 12-year, $315 million deal earlier this week.

It was one of the most stunning developments in recent free agent memory, and it continued what has been a wild winter of spending by Mets owner Steve Cohen.

Correa's agent, Scott Boras, said this week that there are no concerns with Correa's physical health at this moment, but the Mets apparently disagree.

According to the Athletic, the Mets have raised concern about Correa's surgically repaired leg and its long-term durability.

The report says it is possible that the two sides could agree to a re-worked deal if the concerns do not go away, but that it would be difficult for the Mets to walk away after Cohen already spoke publicly about the deal. It would also be problematic for Correa to land a similar deal in free agency after two teams flagged the same potential problem with his physical.

The Mets have been one of the most aggressive teams this offseason in free agency and have seen their payroll balloon well north of $300 million, even before the potential addition of Correa. They are clearly in a win-at-all-costs push and Correa figured to be a big part of that.

He still ultimately might be, but there is at least some concern at the moment.
