Manaea continues to dominate this season as he's posted a 10-5 record with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP through 26 starts. His underlying metrics are equally dominant as the southpaw ranks in the top half of the league in xERA, average exit velocity, strikeout rate and barrel rate.
Entering this matchup in particularly good form, Manaea has allowed three or fewer runs in seven consecutive starts. He is 4-1 over that stretch with a commanding 2.98 ERA.
That success is likely to continue against Chicago, a team Manaea is 2-0 against through three career meetings with a 2.81 ERA. Following the left-hander is a strong bullpen that ranks sixth in the league in xFIP.
The Mets' pitching staff should have a relatively stress-free day against Chicago's lineup. Chicago ranks in the bottom two of the league in runs scored per game, hits per game, BA, OBP, SLG, OPS and home runs.
The good news for the White Sox is that Crochet is capable of keeping them in this game. The former first-round pick boasts a 3.64 ERA and a 1.07 ERA through 27 starts this season.
Crochet's analytics are somehow even stronger as he sports a 2.82 xERA and ranks in the 83rd percentile or higher in xBA, strikeout rate and walk rate.
There are multiple reasons to be optimistic about the under in this contest. For starters, Chicago possesses the worst lineup in baseball.
More importantly, both of these starting pitchers are capable of taking care of business. Manaea and Crochet both rank in the top half of the league in xERA, xBA, average exit velocity and strikeout rate.
Pick: Under 8.5
I'm going to pass on the moneyline. I have no interest in laying -176 on New York. I also have no interest in backing Chicago.
I'm also going to pass on the run line. I like the Mets at -1.5, but would like to see a larger payout than the current -105 tag.
I'm betting Under 8.5 in this game.
