MLB Offseason News After GM Meetings

As the MLB offseason begins, the GM meetings have already taken place. After the meetings, certain teams seem to be more aggressive than others. Here is how it looks for each MLB team after the GM meetings.

Offseason Buzz From the GM Meetings

AL West

Texas Rangers:

In all likeliness, the Texas Rangers will seek to cut payroll and become a younger, more dangerous team. After winning the World Series in 2023 behind a great offense, even after a pretty good offseason last year, the Rangers offense left much to be desired.

Athletics:

In 2025, the Athletics looked really good offensively, led by rookies and other youngsters who showed the A’s true potential. The goal this offseason is clear: getting a better rotation. The A’s struggled in the pitching department even with the addition of Luis Severino, and they only have 2 starters coming out of 2025. The A’s are certain to attempt to get a better rotation.

Houston Astros:

The Houston Astros will probably have to see Frambler Valdez, possibly the most valuable pitching free agent, leave in free agency. Instead of going all in, Houston will try to see if there younger talent can lead them back into the playoff picture.

Seattle Mariners:

For the Seattle Mariners, the offseason priority will probably be to re-sign Josh Naylor. Other than that, Seattle will look to retain their current talent and make another run in the postseason in 2026. Expect Seattle to be potentially aggressive this offseason after just falling short in 2025.

Los Angeles Angels:

Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Angels, they will have to deal with several other issues. The Angels have fits, but likely can’t go after them because of a pretty low budget. Simply put, 2026 could be another season of rebuilding.

AL Central

Kansas City Royals:

The Kansas City Royals simply needed to have better offense than they did in 2025. With some stars still in the lineup and a good rotation, a good addition to left field or another position could be the answer to another playoff appearance in 2026.

Cleveland Guardians:

The Cleveland Guardians simply need to do their best to retain talent. The team was able to use an elite rotation and a pretty good offense to find there way into the playoffs, despite losing several stars from the seasons before. The unfortunate part for Cleveland is the loss of two big pitchers do to betting allegations, Luis Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase. Even then though, it’s about doing what they have done, winning.

Minnesota Twins:

As for Minnesota Twins, no one seems to know whether or not this teams seeks to have a better 2026 campaign and retain onto talent or trade away some big starters. However, for now, it seems they could be a massive team in terms of a trading, especially pitchers like Joe Ryan and Pablo Lopez.

Chicago White Sox:

A team that was atrocious in 2024 and looked better in 2025, the Chicago White Sox. The biggest story for the this team will be whether or not they trade certain players. Other than that, 2026 will be another season of rebuilding with their abundant young talent.

Detroit Tigers:

The good thing for the Detroit Tigers and it’s fans is Tarik Skubal is remaining a Tiger for now. This means that either through trades or free agency, the Tigers will probably look to get better and compete for a championship while they can. After their start to the season, they definitely showed that they can.

AL East

New York Yankees:

After 2025, it’s clear that the New York Yankees need relief help and more offensive consistency. The Yanks will probably be all over the relief market, while also trying to retain or gain other bats on the market. Some big names to target include Pete Alonso and Kyle Tucker, while Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger become free agents. The Yanks will be aggressive as usual.

Toronto Blue Jays:

Even after their World Series run in 2025, the Toronto Blue Jays have money to spend. The question remains if they can retain talent and even gain some more talent. The team is still built for success, but can they actually do it in 2026 after getting two outs away from the World Series win in 2025? The offseason could help answer the question…

Tampa Bay Rays:

For the Tampa Bay Rays, nothing should be expected of them in 2026. They will likely lose Pete Fairbanks, while probably not gaining any big free agents. What’s in store for this offseason? Not many know.

Baltimore Orioles:

The Baltimore Orioles front office in 2025 made a huge mistake trying to rely on veterans to carry the rotation. This offseason, they will likely try to improve in this area, while their offense should be expected to do just fine in 2026 with so much young talent.

Boston Red Sox:

The Boston Red Sox will definitely be aggressive in this offseason. It’s clear that Boston want’s another ace in it’s rotation, while they might seek to also get a bat off the market. The Red Sox are definitely not sitting this offseason out either.

NL West

Los Angeles Dodgers:

One player many can see the Los Angeles Dodgers targeting and acquiring is Kyle Tucker. Other than that, the bullpen will be an area to improve on for 2026. Of course though, this team shouldn’t have to worry too much about their current stat.

San Diego Padres:

If there is one team that hate’s always being behind the Dodgers it’s the San Diego Padres. The problem is though, the Padres have two aces entering free agency, while another will be out for the season in 2026. The very unreliable Joe Musgrove is the potential top ace for the team in 26. The Padres will be aggressive as usual, but they need to retain talent more than anything.

Arizona Diamondbacks:

The Arizona Diamondbacks could be an interesting team, mainly because of trade targets the team has. If they don’t, then they can still wait for several stars to return from injury around midseason. The D-Backs still have much to decide in the 2025-26 offseason.

San Francisco Giants:

The San Francisco Giants have money. Yet, it still remains questionable if the Giants will do much to improve this offseason. With some superstars, the Giants will probably look to improve in some areas while also just hoping for a much better 2026 season.

Colorado Rockies:

The Colorado Rockies have a lot of problems to solve in this offseason. Their new GM, Paul DePodesta needs to find a way to get pitchers who can pitch in such altitude. At the same time though, this team must find a way to continue rebuilding around it’s young talent.

NL Central

Milwaukee Brewers:

For this team that performed so well, small additions is probably what the Milwaukee Brewers this offseason. If need be though, Freddy Peralta could be traded for a big haul of young talent.

Chicago Cubs:

In 2025, the Chicago Cubs fell miles short of what they could’ve done. Both Tucker and PCA looked atrocious in the second-half. That being said though, Tucker is very likely no longer a Cub, while the Cubs have already made it clear that they seek to get arms. Hopefully, the lineup and rotation can be more consistent in 2026 with some help.

St. Louis Cardinals:

For the St. Louis Cardinals, last season was kind of wasted. Hopefully, in this offseason, the Cardinals can trade their older stars and begin an important rebuild around younger talent.

Cincinnati Reds:

For the Cincinnati Reds, they just beat out the much more powerful New York Mets with a stellar rotation. In other words, with a small payroll and a good rotation, the Reds showed some potential. In order to get better, this offseason won’t be big, but it will probably see some moves that good improve the offense.

Pittsburgh Pirates:

It’s about spending more money for this Pittsburgh Pirates team. With studs like Paul Skenes and an okay rotation, that money has to go toward their lackluster offense. With a Cy Young award winner leading the rotation and some money spend towards the offense, maybe the team can make the playoffs in the coming seasons.

NL East

New York Mets:

The Mets will no doubt be aggressive this offseason, in both trades and free agency. In free agency, perhaps re-signing Alonso and Edwin Diaz  is the best way to go, while maybe also targeting some bullpen pieces and an ace like Valdez. The Mets also have tremendous young talent though, calling for potential patience and of course- trading power.

Atlanta Braves:

The Atlanta Braves know it’s about retaining talent and just getting better in 2026. This offseason, other than at the shortstop position, they really is no reason to be aggressive. With still so many stars, the Braves remain a great team.

Philadelphia Phillies:

Unfortunately, every season, the Philadelphia Phillies are getting older, but are also being tied down. With Kyle Schwarber, Ranger Suarez, and others hitting the free agency market, the Phillies have a lot of work to do to continue to be a threat in NL East.

Miami Marlins:

If the Miami Marlins don’t trade away all of their current talent, then they can spend money and get to being a potential contender, at least for an NL Wild Card spot. Of course, the Marlins must still deal with the Phils, Mets, and Braves, who all have more money and arguably more talent than them. But, you never know in the MLB who wins what.

Washington Nationals:

There remains a massive question for the Washington Nationals, will they trade Mackenzie Gore? Gore has been up and down, but can clearly be a great ace. If the Nat’s don’t, then targeting a first baseman like Alonso or someone else could finally get them out of the rebuilding era. For this offseason, can the Nationals get out the rebuilding era and finally become a good team? This offseason could tell.
