Luis Arraez is arguably the best contact hitter in the MLB, but he remained unsigned in the free agent market for a long period of the offseason. The San Francisco Giants eventually picked up the three-time batting champion on a short-term deal. But Arraez could be switching teams, as the Giants have faded out of playoff contention early in the season.
According to Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report, Luis Arraez will be a strong candidate for a trade deadline this summer. The San Francisco Giants’ second baseman will attract plenty of interest from teams needing cover at the position. The Toronto Blue Jays are likely to be the leading contenders, with the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres also in the mix.
“Contenders who are deficient at second base include the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays. There’s also the San Diego Padres,” Rymer wrote.

The Blue Jays moved Ernie Clement to shortstop with the addition of third baseman Kazuma Okamoto in the offseason. The addition of Arraez will boost their infield depth offensively, as well as defensively.
MLB insider Zachary D. Rymer believes quite a few teams will approach the San Francisco Giants for Luis Arraez in the summer due to the length of his contract. He is enjoying an excellent season with the bat and is seemingly a much-improved infielder with the glove. So he will fit the needs of the Toronto Blue Jays.
“He’s only on a one-year, $12 million contract, and he’s back to batting .319 after a weird down year in 2025. And for once, his bat isn’t the only thing that could elevate a contender. He’s really turned a corner defensively this year, too,” Rymer wrote.
Arraez claimed three batting titles in a row while playing for three different teams. However, he did not have the same consistency last year despite leading the National League in base hits. The 29-year-old is batting .319/.358/.422 with a 125 OPS+ for the Giants this year. Therefore, he suits the high-contact, balls-in-play approach of the Blue Jays lineup.
