MLB to have ball kids for shortened season despite pandemic

The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) confirmed on Wednesday that MLB reversed a previous decision that banned bat-and-ball kids because of the worsening coronavirus pandemic. 

Per the AP, the kids won't be welcomed into dugouts so they remain at least 20 feet away from players and other league personnel at all times. All ball boys and girls must wear masks and gloves inside ballparks, they can't play catch with players, and they must place foul balls and other items directly into a bag for disinfecting purposes.

Earlier this week, MLB warned clubs about violations of health guidelines after players and coaches were seen exchanging high fives and fist bumps following exhibition games. 

We understand the need for these rules, but we also hope the league shows some leniency for kids who unintentionally violate protocols. This is a new normal for everyone involved, after all.
