Nationals sign Kyle Schwarber to one-year, $10 million deal

In 2021, Kyle Schwarber will play for another club for the first time in his career.

According to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post, the Washington Nationals have signed Schwarber to a one-year deal. ESPN's Jeff Passan reports the contract is worth $10 million.

Washington's signing of Schwarber comes after the Chicago Cubs announced their decision to non-tender the 27-year-old in December. After spending six years with the franchise, highlighted by a World Series title, he became a free agent.

Schwarber is best known for his 2016 World Series performance, helping Chicago end its 108-year drought. He returned from ACL and LCL injuries in his knee to slash .412/.500/.471.

The Nationals will hope Schwarber can return to his 2019 form after struggling at the plate in 2020. The outfielder slashed .188/.308/.393 with 11 home runs and 24 RBI during the pandemic-shortened season. During a career year in 2019, he had a .250/.339/.531 slash line with 38 home runs and 92 RBI.
