Orioles Reportedly Open To A Serious Upgrade This Offseason
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles surprised a lot of people in 2022.

On the heels of a 110-loss season and a last-place finish, the Orioles came out of nowhere and emerged as a postseason contender.

Even after trading away Jorge Lopez and Trey Mancini at the trade deadline, the Orioles remained in contention and finished 83-79, just three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the final American League Wild Card spot.

Much of that had to do with the emergence of young stars such as Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson.

With those two surrounding stars such as Cedric Mullins, Austin Hays, Anthony Santander, DL Hall, and John Means, the Orioles look ready to do some damage in 2023.

But it appears that they might be in on some starting pitchers this offseason.

According to Ken Rosenthal, the Orioles “cannot be ruled out on a trade for any starter who might be available,” citing names such as Tarik Skubal, Corbin Burnes, Pablo Lopez, and Zach Plesac.

Orioles Looking To Upgrade Rotation

There could be some significant upgrades made by the Orioles this offseason.

With Means healthy again, adding a frontline starter would give the Orioles a huge boost as they look to compete with the Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the New York Yankees in the American League East.

Burnes, Lopez, and Skubal especially would be beneficial.

The Orioles window to win appears to be opening up after a surprising season, and if they add a big-name starter via trade, then teams in the AL East will be put on notice.
