Padres' Jurickson Profar suffered concussion, cervical strain in collision with teammate

San Diego Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar is out of the hospital and resting after a collision with a teammate resulted in a concussion and a cervical strain, the team announced Friday.

Profar, 29, was injured when he and Padres shortstop C.J. Abrams collided in shallow left field in the fifth inning of a game Thursday night. While Abrams was able to make the catch, his knee hit Profar in the head/neck area.

After being attended to by trainers, Profar stood and began walking off the field before he collapsed to the ground. He was then loaded on to a stretcher and carted off the field. The Padres later announced that he was transported to a local hospital.

The Padres haven't yet provided an update on the severity of Profar's injuries or a timetable for his return to the field.

Profar, who was acquired by the Padres in a December 2019 trade with the Oakland Athletics, is batting .242 this season with eight home runs and 38 RBI. The Padres moved Nolan Mazara from right field to left after Profar's injury Thursday and replaced Mazara in right with José Azócar.
