The Philadelphia Phillies arguably have the best rotation in Major League Baseball, and a big part of that is because of what Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola do as their top two arms.
However, Nola, who hasn't thrown in a game since May 14, wasn't great before going down with a right rib cage injury.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Nola said his injury is a stress fracture, something he wasn't expecting to hear.
“I guess it’s from throwing, and I get work in that area a lot. I’m not really sure,” he said. “I’ve never had a stress fracture in my rib before, so this is really new to me. Just trying to take time off to help it heal.”
According to the Inquirer, it remains uncertain when Noble will return. He won't throw for at least another two weeks and has no timetable for when he might be ready to return to the big leagues.
“I try really hard to keep my body in shape, in pitching shape, and be reliable to make every single start every year,” Nola said. “That’s what I’m here to do, and as starting pitchers, that’s what we’re here to do. And it’s obviously tough going through it, but sometimes things come up and it happens, and got to get through it, and I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to get back as quick as possible.”
This is somewhat concerning, but his 6.16 ERA proved that something was wrong.
Nola has never thrown the baseball as poorly as he did during the 2025 campaign.
He'll likely have to make a rehab start or two, as well, so this could be a lengthy recovery for the veteran right-hander.
