Joey Gallo, Rangers reportedly in extension talks amid trade rumors

The Texas Rangers and Joey Gallo are reportedly discussing a contract extension, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

The talks come as the Rangers are fielding trade inquiries for the All-Star outfielder, Grant adds. Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels added that Gallo's future with the team is a "big decision for us."

The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and San Diego Padres are among teams that have shown interest in Gallo, who is eligible for arbitration through the 2022 season, according to Grant.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported earlier this month that the Yankees were "checking in on outfielders everywhere." New York, third in the AL East and nine games behind the division-leading Boston Red Sox, could use some help in the outfield due to several injuries.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal adds that the Padres are centering their trade deadline pursuits around Gallo. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, need a power bat, and Gallo certainly fits the bill.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career in Texas. He's hitting .226/.385/.492 this season with 24 home runs and 52 RBI in 92 games.

In addition to being named an All-Star this year, Gallo was an All-Star in 2019 and won a Gold Glove in 2020.
