Report: Mets increasing focus on signing Trevor Bauer

The New York Mets have been one of the busiest teams this winter under new owner Steven Cohen. Apparently, the club isn't done adding star talent.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are increasingly focused on signing right-hander Trevor Bauer. Rosenthal says that New York's push to sign Bauer stems from George Springer's decision to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays over the Mets.

Bauer has spent the last season-and-a-half with the Cincinnati Reds. The club acquired the right-hander in a trade with Cleveland during the 2019 campaign. In 21 starts with the franchise, the right-hander went 7-9 with a 3.76 ERA, 1.036 WHIP and 168 strikeouts in 129.1 innings. He won the National League Cy Young award last season.

The Mets have added several big-name players this offseason, including Carlos Carrasco, Francisco Lindor and James McCann. Signing Bauer would be the icing on the cake.

The Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers are also reportedly interested in Bauer, Rosenthal adds, so the Mets are facing some tough competition.
