Arenado trade talks between Rockies, Cardinals gain momentum
Is Rockies Nolan Arenado potentially on his way to the Cardinals? Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Report: Nolan Arenado trade talks between Rockies, Cardinals gaining momentum

The Colorado Rockies have made it known that Nolan Arenado is a trade candidate. While no deal is imminent, it appears the Rockies are discussing a deal with one National League Central club.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, talks between the Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals involving Arenado have gained momentum in the past week.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports that although no deal is imminent, both sides appear to be motivated to complete one. Arenado is guaranteed $199 million over the next six seasons and has a no-trade clause, so he'd have to agree to a move.

The 29-year-old has won a Gold Glove in each of his eight Major League Baseball seasons and was an All-Star every year from 2015-19. He is also a four-time Silver Slugger and four-time Platinum Glover.

In eight seasons with the Rockies, the California native slashed .293/.349/.541. However, during the pandemic-shortened campaign, he wasn't as great, slashing .253/.303/.434 with eight home runs and 26 RBI.

It's not clear who else may be in on, or interested in, Arenado.
