Rockies Pitcher Gets Emotional After Underwhelming Start to the Season

It's been an extremely frustrating and disappointing start to the season for the Colorado Rockies.

As they are hosting a doubleheader on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers, long-time Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland was given the nod at the bump to begin the first of two games.

Freeland is the franchise leader in starts for the Rockies and is a Denver native, growing up in the area and playing baseball in the city where the Rockies play.

The left-handed pitcher got blown up in the game, only pitching three innings and giving up 11 hits, five earned runs and had just two strikeouts in 65 pitches.

Kyle Freeland gets emotional in press conference interview

He went in for an interview with the press before the start of their second game of the day and Freeland looked to be emotional.

"Keep believing in us. Keep riding," He said with a crack in his voice as he seemed to tear up in frustration.

It hasn't been a smooth-sailing season for the 31-year-old, having a season ERA of 6.41, a 1.65 WHIP and has a 0-5 record through eight starts.

The Rockies went into the second game of the day with a record of 6-30, the worst start to a season in franchise history and are already 18.5 games behind the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado wasn't able to continue on from the first set of back-to-back wins they had this season on April 30 against the Atlanta Braves and May 1 against the San Francisco Giants and are currently riding a five-game losing streak.

Even though the season is still short, it's hard to say that the Rockies have the potential to flip this season around and manager Bud Black is on his way to leading the Rockies to yet another 100-loss season.
