Stats Show How Gerrit Cole Is In A Rare Rough Stretch

Gerrit Cole has put together a mostly solid season as the ace of the New York Yankees, who own baseball’s best record.

In 22 starts, Cole is 9-4 with a 3.56 ERA.

But those numbers could be better, especially given his track record.

His last two starts have not been good, so that’s one reason why the ERA is a little bit inflated.

He has allowed five or more runs in back-to-back games.

He hasn’t done that since June of 2017 when he was still pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Yankees analyst Katie Sharp points out on Twitter just how bad things have been for Cole lately and how he is in some uncharted territory.

Cole In Rare Rut

Even the best pitchers in the business have some bad outings here and there.

That is what has happened here with Cole.

Normally dominant, Cole is in a rare rough stretch.

His line against the Seattle Mariners yesterday was quite rough.

Though he did make it through six innings, he allowed six runs on seven hits, and while he also struck out eight batters, he surrendered three home runs.

This is quite unlike Cole.

After the Yankees did not acquire Luis Castillo, Castillo pitched a gem against them yesterday, while Cole had a rare blowup outing.

But the fact that Cole has only done this twice in his career shows just how dominant he has been for so many years and how this truly is uncharted territory for him.

He’s hit a rare rough stretch lately and it continued yesterday with a clunker against the Mariners.

Given Cole’s track record, one would think that he would bounce back soon.

We’ll see if he can regain his edge in his next start.
