The Detroit Tigers are scheduled to resume regular season play tonight at 8:05 p.m. ET against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Alrington, Texas, carrying with them the best record in Major League Baseball.
The Tigers are expected to send ace Tarik Skubal to the hill on Sunday against Rangers superstar Nathan Eovaldi in hopes of winning the final game of a three-game set in an ESPN national telecast.
Skubal started the 2025 MLB All-Star Game and now has a chance to pass another 2025 MLB All-Star on the Tigers' all-time strikeout charts as he continues his ascent toward the top of Detroit's record books.
Skubal's 801 career strikeouts rank 23rd on the Tigers' all-time list, 24 behind 2025 Chicago Cubs All-Star Matthew Boyd, who amassed 825 strikeouts as a member of the Tigers from 2015 to 2021.
Skubal's career high for strikeouts in a game is 13, which he achieved on June 29 against the Minnesota Twins earlier this season and has done three times.
He's more than 1,000 strikeouts away from the Tigers' top three all-time leaders including Jack Morris (1,980), Justin Verlander (2,373), and Mickey Lolich (2,679).
Skubal is expected to be fresh for the second half of the season as he has not thrown more than 100 pitches in a game since June 19 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
