The Detroit Tigers will enter the second half of the MLB season with the best record in baseball at 59–38. Their success earned them six All-Star selections—Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize, Riley Greene, Javier Baez, Gleyber Torres and Zach McKinstry.
Detroit’s dominance stems from a balanced approach: they rank fifth in MLB in runs scored (5.0 per game) and ninth in team ERA (3.69). As the trade deadline approaches, the Tigers will look to add another offensive weapon or pitching asset—either to bolster the rotation or strengthen the bullpen.
The Tigers are poised for back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time in a decade.
After cementing themselves as a true contender this season, Detroit has experienced a return to primetime on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.
One day before the second half begins, the team proudly announced: “The best team in baseball, back on primetime. August 3 at PHI has been flexed to Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN!”

This upcoming broadcast will mark Detroit’s third appearance on Sunday Night Baseball in 2025, following another scheduled outing this Sunday, when Skubal will face Nathan Eovaldi and the Texas Rangers.
Starters for the August 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies have not yet been announced, but Skubal remains the leading candidate.
His breakout season in 2024—crowned with a Cy Young Award and a pitching Triple Crown—has solidified his status as the best pitcher in baseball, and he has continued that dominance in 2025, posting a 2.23 ERA in 19 starts.
