Tim Tebow appears likely to play in Triple-A again in 2020

Tim Tebow looks likely to play another year in the New York Mets’ organization, likely at the same level he played at in 2019.

According to Lindsay Kramer of syracuse.com, Tebow intends to play another year of professional baseball with the Mets. His destination, once again, is likely at Triple-A Syracuse, as Tebow wouldn’t be impeding a higher-upside prospect’s pathway to the majors.

“Right now, it’s a good place for Tim Tebow to be because there’s not a 22-year-old waiting in Double-A, the next phenom. Some of the prospects were traded for some of the transactions that [the Mets] made at the major league level,” Syracuse manager Tony DeFrancesco said Tuesday. “I think next year we’ll be in the same situation. A lot of veteran guys are going to have to be signed to help the major league team at both levels. Hopefully the young kids that are down in (Class A) Columbia and Port St. Lucie are on their way up to get to Double-A next year.”

Tebow hit just .163 with four home runs at the Triple-A level before his 2018 ended prematurely with a hand laceration. Perhaps 2020 will be kinder to him with another year of Triple-A experience under his belt.
