Watch: Carl Yastrzemski throws out first pitch to grandson Mike

The Yastrzemski family got to enjoy a cool moment on Wednesday night.

Prior to the start of Boston’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski threw out the ceremonial first pitch to his grandson, Mike, who plays for the Giants.

Carl played 23 seasons for the Red Sox, making 18 All-Star teams, winning an MVP and three AL batting crowns. He was a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Mike, who played college ball at Vanderbilt, was traded to San Francisco by Baltimore and has had a great season. The rookie has 20 home runs, including one on Tuesday.

Seeing his grandson play is a thrill for the 80-year-old.

“The only way that I can compare it to anything would be if I compare to the ’67 season,” Carl said on Tuesday. “That’s what it means to me, him being here. It’ll be the first time ‘Yastrzemski’ will be announced on the field since ’83.”

These are great times for the Yastrzemskis.
