Watch: Cubs security stops Joey Votto on his way into Wrigley Field

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is only a five-time All-Star and former National League MVP. He’s also a potential future Hall of Famer with a .312 career batting average and 265 homers under his belt.

Apparently, that meant very little to this dude working security for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field ahead of the Reds-Cubs game on Friday.

Votto is legitimately stopped by security before a bystander identifies him as the longtime Cubs rival.

It’s all sorts of awesome.

Votto himself was seemingly dumbfounded as he reached for his back pocket to apparently pull out some sort of identification.

Maybe if Major League Baseball did a better job marketing its star players this wouldn’t be an issue. Then again, Votto has now played 90 career games at Wrigley. At this point, those tasked with security should know who he is.

At the very least, Votto was a good sport about it.
