Watch: Gleyber Torres makes more Yankee history with grand slam

There’s a reason why the New York Yankees have made sure to hang on to young infielder Gleyber Torres in trade talks with other teams over the past couple of years.

Torres, 22, continues to do things we have not seen from Yankees players in ages. It was just last month that Torres joined Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle as the only members of this rich organization to hit 20 homers in a season before the age of 23.

Taking on the Boston Red Sox Friday evening, Torres saw his Yankees down 2-0 in the first inning. With the bases loaded, he took an Eduardo Rodriguez offering deep over the left field fence for a grand slam.

In doing so, Torres became the third-youngest Yankees player of all time to hit two grand slams in the same season. He joined the aforementioned Mantle and Yogi Berra on that exclusive list.

It’s simply wild to realize how much he has accomplished at such a young age. Torres entered Friday’s action hitting .287 with 20 homers and 56 RBI. He’s already a two-time All-Star.

Did we mention that Torres is still only 22 years old?
