White Sox slugger Jose Abreu suffers bruised knee after being hit by pitch

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu left Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners after getting hit by a pitch on his left knee.

The White Sox announced X-rays were negative, adding that Abreu suffered a bruised knee and is considered day-to-day.

The 34-year-old was hit by Mariners reliever JT Chargois in the bottom of the sixth inning by a 96-mph sinker. He lay on the ground in pain before being helped off the field.

Abreu has played through several injuries this season, so he could return to Chicago's lineup as soon as Monday against the Minnesota Twins. However, that's uncertain.

The reigning American League MVP has been one of the White Sox's best batters this season, hitting .239 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI entering Sunday's game.

Chicago has had it rough when it comes to injuries this season. Second baseman Nick Madrigal is out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair tendon tears in his right hamstring, outfielder Eloy Jimenez ruptured his left pectoral tendon and Luis Robert tore his right hip flexor.
