Yankees 7, Twins 1: It genuinely could have been worse

The most interesting thing that happened today was that Rougned Odor called time-out, was granted time as the pitch came in, and then hit a homer that didn’t stand up. Since this isn’t the National Football League, the Yankees could not “decline” the time-out, as it were, and Odor would go on to strike out.

I suppose if you’re a Yankees fan, this game was wildly interesting! Gerrit Cole went six strong and struck out a batter per frame, allowing no runs and bringing his season ERA down to 2.92.

New York jumped out early with a second-inning single, than ran up a five-spot in the fifth inning, getting doubles from Giancarlo Stanton and Luke Voit, and a wild pitch from Kenta Maeda, who was escorted off the field after a complete control breakdown.

The Bombers would add one more in the eighth — a solo knock from Andrew Velazquez.

It would have been a tough game to hunt for studs in were it not for Jorge Polanco, whose solo home run accounted for the only Twins tally today. Minnesota got six total hits, struck out eight times, and saw each of their pitchers give up at least one run.

But hey - it could have been 10-1!
