Yankees place Gio Urshela on injured list with bone spur in elbow

The New York Yankees can't evict the injury bug from their clubhouse this summer.

New York confirmed on Friday that infielder Gio Urshela was placed on the injured list due to a right elbow bone spur. Miguel Andujar's journey to and from the club's alternate site continued, as he replaced Urshela on the roster.

The Bronx Bombers also added right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga on the IL due to "a medical condition that prevents him from playing." Fellow righty Miguel Yajure replaced Loaisiga.

Urshela played for the Yankees against the New York Mets during Thursday's extra-inning affair at Citi Field that Pete Alonso won for the Amazins with a walk-off home run in the 10th inning.

As Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News pointed out, the 28-year-old was trying to play through the injury. It's believed Andujar will fill-in at third base with Urshela sidelined.

Urshela is hitting .272 with six home runs, 23 RBI, seven doubles and a .873 OPS across 31 games. He now joins James Paxton, Gleyber Torres, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton among New York players who are spectators in early September.
