Schugel quietly proving value in bullpen

Quietly, the Bucs may have found another answer for their 2018 bullpen in A.J. Schugel. The 28-year-old right-hander may fit as a jam-defusing fireman and bridge from the starting pitcher to the late-inning relievers, a role he's filled in the second half of the season.

Mariners claim pitcher Schugel off waivers from D-backs

SEATTLE  -- The Seattle Mariners have claimed right-handed pitcher A.J. Schugel off waivers from the Diamondbacks. Schugel, 26, made his major league debut last season with the Diamondbacks, pitching in five games. He split most of the season between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno and was a combined 9-9 with a 4.84 ERA. Schugel was originally a 25th-round pick of the Angels in 2010.
