Last-chance opportunity knocks for
Chan Sung Jung.

Less than a month removed from his 35th birthday and eight-plus years after his failed bid against the great Jose Aldo, the South Korean action hero will challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight crown in the UFC 273 headliner on Saturday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. Meanwhile, Aljamain Sterling puts the bantamweight belt on the line, as his title-unification rematch with interim champion Petr Yan fills the co-main event slot.

As UFC 273 “Volkanovski vs. Korean Zombie” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the card have brought with them:

10: Consecutive calendar years in which Volkanovski has fought at least once. He went 1-0 in 2012, 3-1 in 2013, 5-0 in 2014, 2-0 in 2015, 3-0 in 2016, 2-0 in 2017, 3-0 in 2018, 2-0 in 2019, 1-0 in 2020 and 1-0 in 2021.

18,303: Fans who witnessed Jung’s seven-second knockout of Mark Hominick at UFC 140 on Dec. 10, 2011 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. It ranks as the third-fastest finish in Ultimate Fighting Championship history, bested only by Jorge Masvidal’s five-second knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239 and Duane Ludwig’s six-second knockout of Jonathan Goulet at UFC Fight Night 3.

1: Knockout loss on the Sterling resume. The Serra-Longo Fight Team mainstay was felled by a Marlon Moraes knee strike at UFC Fight Night 123 four-plus years ago.

10: Knockdowns landed by Yan as a UFC bantamweight, making him the promotion’s all-time leader at 135 pounds. T.J. Dillashaw (nine), Cody Garbrandt (nine), Eddie Wineland (eight) and Montel Jackson (eight) round out the division’s Top 5 in the category.

5: Countries in which Gilbert Burns has plied his mixed martial arts trade. The Sanford MMA export has gone 9-2 in his native Brazil, 8-2 in the United States, 1-0 in Canada, 1-0 in Uruguay and 1-0 in Denmark. Burns toes the line against the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev in a three-round welterweight showcase.

111: Significant strikes by which Chimaev has outlanded his first four opponents in the UFC. He has connected on 112 such strikes while absorbing only one in return from Jingliang Li, Gerald Meerschaert, Rhys McKee and John Phillips.

4: Promotions in which Mackenzie Dern has competed as a mixed martial artist. She has gone 6-2 in the UFC, 2-0 in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, 2-0 in Legacy Fighting Championship and 1-0 in Invicta Fighting Championships. The 2015 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist takes on Tecia Torres in a featured women’s strawweight attraction.

1,257: Total strikes landed by American Top Team’s Torres since she joined the UFC roster in 2014, placing her third on the organization’s all-time list at 115 pounds. Only Joanna Jedrzejczyk (1,819) and Angela Hill (1,688) have connected with more.

2: Sub-minute stoppage victories on the Mark O. Madsen resume. The former Olympic silver medalist wiped out Philipp Henze with punches in 44 seconds at European MMA 6 on Sept. 26, 2013 and choked Matthias Freyschuss unconscious with a guillotine at MMA Galla Vol. 4 on Jan. 13, 2018. Madsen puts his perfect 11-0 record on the line opposite “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 15 semifinalist Vince Pichel in a three-round lightweight showcase.

8: Pichel wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 57% of his career total (14). However, only one of them has taken place inside the Octagon, as the Factory X product punched out Damien Brown at UFC Fight Night 110 in June 2017. Pichel holds six other wins by decision.

44: Years of age for Alexey Oleynik, who was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on June 25, 1977. The oldest fighter on the card, he meets Jared Vanderaa in a three-round heavyweight prelim.

22: Years of age for Kay Hansen, who was born on Aug. 14, 1999 in La Mirada, California. The youngest fighter on the card, she confronts unbeaten promotional newcomer Piera Rodriguez in an undercard pairing at 115 pounds.

.800: Cumulative winning percentage between the 26 fighters booked to compete at the event. They sport a combined record of 365-89-2. Oleynik owns the most wins (59) and most losses (16) of any fighter on the card.
