Conor McGregor keeps calling out everyone but Michael Chandler

The always controversial Conor McGregor is booked to fight fellow “Ultimate Fighter” coach Michael Chandler in either December or January, but the former two-division UFC champion is seemingly challenging every fighter in the lightweight division but Chandler.

Tony Ferguson’s name appears to have been added to that list after he and McGregor recently got into a heated exchange over X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that resulted in what looks to be a challenge for a future 155-pound showdown.

Ferguson (25-9) and McGregor (22-6) have been at odds with one another for a handful of years. They’ve exchanged words a few times and have hinted at fighting one another on several occasions but nothing has ever materialized.

McGregor won the UFC lightweight belt in November 2016 and held it for 511 days. He didn’t defend the belt in 2017 due to making his pro boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August of that year.

In McGregor’s absence, Ferguson submitted Kevin Lee in October 2017 at UFC 216 to win the interim lightweight title, seemingly putting him and McGregor on a collision course to unify the belts. However, both were stripped of their titles on April 7, 2018, due to injury (Ferguson) and inactivity (McGregor).

Since that day, Ferguson has gone 2-6 and lost another interim title fight to Justin Gaethje in May 2020. Conversely, McGregor is 1-3 over that same stretch, losing a lightweight title match to Khabib Nurmagomedov and suffering back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier — the last of which earned Poirier a lightweight title fight.
