Was UFC president Dana White inspired to file trademark applications thanks to a John Oliver bit? Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Did John Oliver inspire UFC to file for UFSEA trademarks?

It appears "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" has inspired Dana White and the UFC.

On Wednesday, Josh Gerben of the Gerben Law Firm reported that the UFC has filed for four different trademarks regarding the use of name UFSEA (pronounced U-F-C, naturally):

Unsurprisingly, these filings are related to mixed martial arts events and merchandise related to such shows, and they come roughly one month after the promotion trademarked "Fight Island," the name of a venue that will host events and, per White, championship fights this summer.

White may have borrowed the idea from Oliver. As Tom Taylor of BJPenn.com wrote, Oliver recently mentioned the "UFSEA" name while reacting to the "Fight Island" concept.

"Yes, the UFC is apparently building a facility on a private island that they’re calling 'Fight Island.' Now, is that a clever name? No. Is it the perfect name? Yes. Because it’s the first thought an idiot would have if they wanted to name a private island where fights happen.

"Now, he could have called it 'Brawlhamas,' or 'Puerto Ruckus,' or 'Owie Maui,' or 'Slam Miguel.' But he didn't do that. And he didn't even go with the obvious name for an island where you stage UFC fights, which is simply 'UF-SEA.'"

White was watching, Mr. Oliver, and that's why you probably should've called the trademark office before this segment aired.

Meanwhile, it's possible a title fight between UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and former two-division champion Conor McGregor could headline a Fight Island card in July
