Dustin Poirier says UFC is putting together 'super short notice' fight against Nate Diaz

Dustin Poirier expects his next fight in the UFC will be against Nate Diaz and he says it could happen very soon.

Poirier, 32, appeared on a podcast with legendary boxing trainer Teddy Atlas and teased a fight that he said fans would be excited about, although he didn't want to announce the opponent until a contract was finalized. But a few minutes later, Poirier went ahead and spilled the beans.

"I don't owe these guys nothing, I'm not biting my tongue. It is Nate Diaz," Poirier said. "I'm not going to say what card, I'm not going to say a date."

The only clues Poirier dropped about the day of the fight is that it's definitely within six weeks and that it's "super short notice, like I need to go run right now, that's how short notice."

Poirier fought for the UFC lightweight championship on Dec. 11, but lost to Charles Oliveira via submission. A few days later, he and Diaz had a brief exchange on Twitter.

Diaz and Poirier were first scheduled to fight each other at UFC 230 in 2018, but the fight was scrapped due to an injury suffered by Poirier.
