Ex-welterweight title challenger Darren Till released from UFC contract

Darren Till is no longer a UFC fighter.

The former welterweight title challenger confirmed his departure on Twitter on Wednesday.

"They happily agreed to release me out of [my] contract which I appreciate." Till wrote. "I’m not going anywhere, got big plans to execute & I’ll be back.”

On Tuesday, it was reported that the native of Liverpool, England was removed from UFC rankings.

The end of Till’s UFC stint doesn't mean his fighting career is over. He is expected to draw interest from several other organizations. Despite his recent losing streak, the 30-year-old still has plenty to offer in the fight game.

Till must improve in another promotion and use that momentum to rejuvenate his fighting career. If he does, he could re-join the UFC.

“The Gorilla” spent eight years with the mixed martial arts promotion. He went 17-0-1 to start his career. His outspoken nature skyrocketed his popularity and established him as a potential superstar.

Everything changed when he failed to capture the welterweight title from Tyron Woodley at UFC 228.

After back-to-back losses, Till made a permanent move up to the middleweight division. He came up short in his title quest after losing five of his past six fights. He also suffered many injuries during the past few years.

Till last fought in December at UFC 282, where he was submitted by Dricus du Plessis in the third round.
