Jorge Masvidal charged with felony battery for attacking Colby Covington
Less than three weeks after Colby Covington beat Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision at UFC 272, Miami Beach Police say Masvidal attacked Covington in front of a restaurant Monday night.
In a police report obtained by multiple outlets, officers say Covington exited Papi Steak Restaurant on Monday night when Masvidal "ran up to him from his left and without notice punched him with a closed fist two times in the face." The report says that Covington suffered a fractured tooth in the attack. According to ESPN, Masvidal was charged with felony battery.
A video posted by TMZ purportedly shows the aftermath of the attack with several individuals separating Masvidal and Covington.
On Monday night, Masvidal posted a video on Twitter directed at Covington.
In the police report, Covington reportedly said he heard Masvidal say, "You shouldn't have been talking about my kids." Masvidal seemingly confirmed that was the reason for the attack with another tweet Tuesday morning.
Covington and Masvidal are ranked first and seventh, respectively, among contenders in the UFC's welterweight division. Both fighters lost twice to champion Kamaru Usman.
