MMA fighter Cain Velasquez granted bail for pending murder trial

Former UFC heavyweight fighter Cain Velasquez was granted bail by a Santa Clara Country judge on Tuesday after two previous requests for bail were denied this year.

The former heavyweight champion was arrested earlier this year and charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, as well as 10 gun-related charges after he chased down a man who was being charged with molesting one of Velasquez's relatives. Velasquez allegedly rammed his car into Harry Goularte Jr.'s vehicle before getting out and shooting into it. Goularte's stepfather was hit but reportedly suffered non-threatening life injuries.

At the time, Goularte was out on bail at the time Velasquez chased him. His pretrial hearing took place earlier this month.

Per CBS Sports, the conditions of Velasquez's bail include "$1 million bail, home detention with GPS monitoring, outpatient treatment for traumatic brain injuries, counseling, and a protective order to stay at least 300 yards away" from Goularte and his family.

"Mr. Velasquez, I would not release you if I was not convinced that finally a release at this time, eight months later, that you would be a danger to Harry Goularte, primarily, Patricia Goularte or Paul Bender or the public," Judge Arther Bocanegra said.

"But if you are as devoted as a husband and father, I have to believe and I'm confident he will not jeopardize anything that would take away from your son, your daughter, or your family. I hope you don't prove me wrong."

A trial date for Velasquez has not been set yet.
