UFC 279 has a NEW main event after Khamzat Chimaev monumentally missed weight ahead of his fight with Nate Diaz.

When Chimaev was mismatched with Diaz, the whole MMA world were intrigued to see how the fight would unfold, if a little worried for the health of the latter.

However, Diaz has had a lucky escape, with Chimaev having headed to the weigh-in more than seven pounds over the necessary weight.

Diaz, who is now in the swansong of his UFC career, will instead be fighting Tony Ferguson in a fight that promises to be an all out WAR.

Chimaev has not lost his spot on the card and will be fighting Kevin Holland instead on the undercard. He is fortunate to be allowed to continue on the event at all.

There is definitely an argument that the card now has better match-ups than it did to begin with, so at least we haven’t had an evening of promised entertainment spoiled.

That said, it is still totally unacceptable for fighters to be taking to the scales that far overweight. Chimaev will be in the dog house with Dana White, no doubt…
