Rap star Drake loses $2 million on UFC fight

Sports betting has its fair share of risks, even if you're an international celebrity with deep pockets.

Such was the case for rapper Drake, who posted to social media over the weekend that he placed a $2 million bet on Israel Adesanya to defeat Alex Pereira in UFC 281 on Saturday.

Spoiler alert: Pereira won the bout in the fifth round. So the $2.9 million Drake could have won had Adesanya pulled out the victory is now a $2 million hole in his bank account.

You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who feels bad for how much bacon Drake just lost, given his net worth and notable penchant for betting large sums on sporting events. He has regularly shared that he bets on football, basketball, and hockey, as well as Formula 1. This also isn't the first time he has placed a large sum on Adesanya, as CBS Sports mentioned the Canadian rapper won $1 million last summer after betting on the Nigerian-born fighter.

Adesanya had the advantage for the majority of Saturday's middleweight bout until Pereira landed a few serious blows in the fifth round. It marked the third time that Pereira defeated Adesanya in his career and the first time on the UFC main stage.
