Report: Dominick Reyes vs. Jan Blachowicz planned for UFC 253

On Monday, ESPN's Brett Okamoto reported that a light heavyweight fight between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz is being finalized for the Sept. 26 UFC 253 pay-per-view card headlined by Israel Adesanya defending his middleweight title versus Paulo Costa.

Per Okamoto, it's currently being determined if the winner of a Reyes-Blachowicz match would receive an opportunity to face light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jones has repeatedly suggested amid the coronavirus pandemic that he could be finished fighting in the division and, possibly, in the UFC, entirely, and a potential bout versus either Reyes or Blachowicz likely wouldn't convince the champ to return to the octagon this year.

Jones handed Reyes the first professional loss of Reyes' career in February. A majority of media members credited on MMA Decisions scored the UFC 247 bout in favor of Reyes.

Jones, viewed by many as the greatest all-around fighter in UFC history, suggested via Twitter he could be next in line to challenge heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, who successfully defended his crown versus Daniel Cormier on Saturday:

There's also speculation that UFC boss Dana White prefers to keep superstars such as Jones and Conor McGregor off cards until fans can once again pay to watch shows in person.
