Thiago Santos tests positive for coronavirus, off Oct. 3 UFC show

An anticipated UFC light heavyweight match between Thiago Santos and Glover Teixeira will have to wait even longer if it is to happen, at all.

MMA Fighting has confirmed that Santos recently tested positive for the coronavirus and has been ruled out for the Oct. 3 show headlined by Holly Holm taking on Irene Aldana. That fight was postponed earlier this summer after Aldana tested positive for the virus.

This isn't the first time misfortune impacted a potential Santos-Teixeira bout. That match was pulled from last Saturday's card and moved to Oct. 3 after Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19.

Michelle Waterson versus Angela Hill was bumped to the main event of last weekend's show. Waterson earned a split-decision win.

MMA Fighting added that it's unknown if the UFC intends to find a replacement for Santos or if the promotion will postpone the fight once again.

Santos (21-7-0) hasn't competed in the octagon since he lost to Jon Jones in July 2019. Teixeira (31-7-0) has won four consecutive fights and five of his past six. He defeated Anthony Smith by fifth-round TKO in May.

It's believed the winner of a Teixeira-Santos match could face the winner of the upcoming Dominick Reyes-Jan Blachowicz bout that will determine the new holder of the light heavyweight championship vacated by the previously mentioned Jones last month.
