Don't expect UFC lightweight Beneil Dariush to start revving up the trash talk.
Dariush is set for a pivotal 155-pound clash against former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira. The bout, which has potential title implications, will take place on June 10. It'll serve as the co-main event of UFC 289. The action will emanate from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
With fight night approaching, Dariush joined Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith for a chat on the "Believe You Me" podcast. During the show, Smith asked Dariush about trash talking and possibly having opportunities pass him by because he doesn't cause a stir.
The number-four-ranked UFC lightweight explained why he won't be hurling insults anytime soon.
"The thing is, there's like multiple reasons for this," Dariush said. "One is if I get caught up in it, I'm acting like someone I'm not. It's something I don't believe in. I don't like the cookie cutter way of like doing things, right? You talk a little trash, after post-fight you call somebody out. This is cookie cutter, I don't like it. I don't feel it's of my nature. So, I don't do it."
Dariush also said he doesn't want his kids to watch his interviews one day and view him as a hypocrite. The top UFC lightweight contender made it clear that he's serious about teaching his children how to behave in public, and he wants to continue practicing what he preaches.
Time will tell if Dariush can turn in what would be the biggest win of his pro MMA career. He claims to have been guaranteed a shot at UFC gold if he can get past Oliveira.
