Almost five years ago to the day, Arman Tsarukyan made his UFC debut against the future lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.

At UFC 300 Saturday night, Tsarukyan secured his rematch with Makhachev by defeating former champion Charles Oliveira.

While the official decision was a split, Tsarukyan felt he did everything he needed to earn the win. The crowd, though, seemed to disagree.

“I thought it was going to be all judges give it to me,” Tsarukyan said. “It is what it is. I got the win. Charles is so tough. I have to work on my skills and come back much stronger.”

Back in 2019, Makhachev scored a decision victory in a “Fight of the Night.” Since that loss, Tsarukyan has won nine of 10 fights overall.

“It was five years ago and I fight on short notice,” Tsarukyan said. “I gave him the toughest fight. I believe in myself. I’m going to win. Next fight, just give me the opportunity.

“I want to fight for the title. I am going to be the youngest UFC champion in 155 division.”
