On the prelims of UFC 300 tonight, a former champion made his debut in a new weight class. Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling (23-4) was moving up for the first time as he took on Calvin Kattar (23-7).

Sterling carried the bantamweight title and a nine-fight win streak into Boston last August against Sean O’Malley. That night, Sterling was stopped in the second round and his title reign came to an end. Following that loss, Sterling decided to do what he’s been teasing for a long time and that’s move up to 145.

Standing there to greet him tonight was Calvin Kattar. We haven’t seen Kattar in over a year and a half due to a severe knee injury he suffered in his last fight against Arnold Allen. Because of the injury loss and a split decision before that, Kattar had lost two in a row leading up to UFC 300. He was incredibly motivated to spoil the party and get back in the win column.
