The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to ESPN airwaves for an intriguing middleweight showdown.
Both Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland made weight for their UFC on ESPN 42 main event. However, one undercard fighter missed weight on the card as Philip Rowe came in 2.5 pounds over the welterweight limit for his fight against Niko Price and has been fined 30% of his purse. Following the weigh-in ceremony, one additional match encountered some difficulty: Tracy Cortez, who successfully hit the 125-pound mark, has encountered a medical issue, and her fight against Amanda Ribas (125) has been pulled from the lineup.
The main event is a pivotal match for each fighter, as Thompson (16-6-1) has lost two straight fights, while Holland (23-8, 1 NC) is coming off being dominated by Khamzat Chimaev. Both fighters will look to get back to being welterweight contenders with a decisive victory. "Wonderboy" officially weighed in at 170 pounds, while Holland came in at 170.5 pounds.
UFC on ESPN 42 will air live on Saturday on ESPN and ESPN+. Prelims begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, and the main card starts at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
