Will Conor McGregor battle Anderson Silva on the UFC Fight Island?

Two of the biggest legends and names in UFC history may be positioning themselves for a future bout on Fight Island amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Late Wednesday evening, Anderson Silva took to Instagram to tease a fight with former two-division champion Conor McGregor:

"Spider" wrote:

"I have immense admiration for the great athlete that Conor is and I believe that a super fight would go down in the history of the sport, neither of us need to prove anything to anyone. I believe that fans of the UFC and of this sport would like to watch this great martial arts spectacle, it would be fantastic to test my martial arts skills against him!!"

McGregor, who is no stranger to social media, saw Silva's post:

Silva, who turned 45 years old in April, hasn't fought in the UFC since May 2019. He's lost six of his last eight bouts, with one "no contest" among those matches.

Earlier this month, McGregor suggested that he was open to flying wherever necessary to compete in the octagon for the first time since he downed Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds at UFC 246 in January. While Las Vegas has officially been cleared to welcome both mixed martial arts and boxing cards, UFC boss Dana White may wish to hold any McGregor match for the opening of his Fight Island — which could also be known as "UFSEA."

On Tuesday, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman challenged both McGregor and Jorge Masvidal for a potential July title showdown.
