It sounds like the dream match of CM Punk and Stone Cold Steve Austin is closer to being a reality than ever before.

Fans have often speculated about a possible match between CM Punk and Steve Austin. And while it seemingly came close on a few occasions, the match never happened. But perhaps that’s about to change.

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), several people in the company are already pushing for the dream match to take place. So much so that Punk has already had discussions about the possibility with people in the company.

Sapp states that it’s currently unknown how far talks and pitches have gone, but if everything goes well, WWE hopes to have Punk travel to sit down with Austin to discuss a possible matchup.

While this is far from a guaranteed thing, this is the closest this match has ever come to taking place.
