Colby Covington parts ways with American Top Team, calls out Jorge Masvidal

It looks like current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman isn't the only person interested in facing Jorge Masvidal inside the octagon this summer.

While speaking with ESPN's Ariel Helwani, Colby Covington announced that he has parted ways with American Top Team. As ESPN's Marc Raimondi wrote, Covington had contentious relationships with Masvidal and other fighters under the ATT banner and also gym owner Dan Lambert.

Covington took some direct shots at Masvidal, whom he named "George" during the interview, while wearing a T-shirt and hat in support of President Donald Trump.

"Hey, guess what? I'm not on the team no more. I'm not your teammate. I'm not your roommate, George. Now I'm just your daddy. I give you your (expletive) spankings. So, if you've got something to say, don't go to Dan Lambert crying like a grown-(expletive) (expletive).

"You're a grown adult professional fighter, and you're going to another grown adult who is a successful businessman, Dan Lambert, and you're crying about your precious little feelings."

Covington added that it was time for him to leave ATT and that "everybody," presumably the gym's other fighters, wanted him out.

Covington last fought in December when he lost to Usman at UFC 245. On Tuesday, ESPN's Brett Okamoto named Masvidal as a favorite to face Usman for the welterweight championship, perhaps in a main-event contest at the UFC's Fight Island

Usman has also called out former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor for a summer title fight.
