Plenty of baseball players have shown their love of professional wrestling over the years.

From Wade Boggs appearing alongside Curt Hennig to introduce the world to the “perfect swing” (Boggs would later induct Mr. Perfect into the WWE Hall of Fame) to Josh Reddick channeling Ultimate Warrior on live television.

But did you know that only one active Major Leaguer ever appeared on air during a WWE pay-per-view?

It’s true and Sunday’s “Survivor Series” marks the tenth anniversary of the time Dmitri Young got called out by Edge and Lita while promoting their upcoming segment “The Cutting Edge”.

The banter was pretty standard fare

Edge made a crack about the Detroit Tigers having “no hope in Hell” in winning the World Series (the team would go on to lose the 2006 World Series in five games). Coincidentally, Young would be released by the Tigers with less than a month left in the season.

Next, the Superstar questioned the team’s lack of talent or lack of steroids. Which, yes, is ironic given WWE’s own history with performance enhancing drugs, but, come on…low hanging fruit is low hanging fruit.

“Let’s face it, baseball is a crock,” Edge said. “It’s a bunch of overpaid crybabies hooked on amphetamines.”

Lastly, Edge would take a number of jabs at the host city, Detroit, the city’s lackluster sports teams and even attacked Young’s weight before the lifetime .292 hitter got on the mic.

“You know, we do have something in common,” Young said. “I hit balls…you have no balls.”

Yeah, you go Dmitri! Wait…say what?

Young would go on to tout Detroit’s storied sports history and finish up by asking Edge about his own inability to win the World Championship.

Unfortunately, no video exists of the exchange on YouTube, but you can jump right to it if you’ve got a subscription to the WWE Network. Just search for Survivor Series 2005 and it’s right there at the 1:17:00 mark.
