Bubba Wallace salutes Talladega fans on Twitter
Bubba Wallace had quite the roller-coaster week.
NASCAR officials, driver, and crew honored Wallace, the only full-time Black driver on the Cup Series, ahead of Monday's race at Talladega Superspeedway after an alleged noose was found inside of his garage on Sunday:
After Wallace finished 14th, he saluted a group of fans cheering him on from the stands:
The FBI later determined Wallace wasn't the victim of a hate crime, explaining that the alleged noose in question was a pull rope. Wallace has disputed that FBI report.
On Friday, Wallace addressed Talladega fans once again via social media:
"This hits hard for me. I'll never forget the chants, I'll never forget this image!" Wallace wrote.
Following the killing of George Floyd, Wallace was instrumental in NASCAR banning Confederate flags at all events moving forward.
