The throwback paint schemes are rolling out ahead of the Goodyear 400 at Darlington and Kyle Larson may have the best one already. Larson is set to pilot a Terry Labonte tribute scheme based on the iconic No. 5 Kellogg’s car that graced NASCAR tracks for so long.

Terry Labonte is one of the legends of NASCAR. With 22 wins, two Cup Series championships, a pair of IROC championships, and a host of other accomplishments, Labonte has been there and done that when it comes to racing.

One of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers of all time, it is fitting that Labonte gets this honor. Kyle Larson was able to unveil the special paint scheme on FOX RaceHub, right there with Labonte.

Check out the video and how stoked the former champ is to see this tribute scheme.

The Goodyear 400 is a fun event. There are so many former drivers that come to the track to see fans, watch racing, and talk about the good old days. Kyle Larson won the Southern 500 last year at Darlington in the Fall.

During his career, Larson has finished P2 at Darlington on three occasions. He has a great shot at putting it in Victory Lane as Labonte instructed him.

The Goodyear 400 and Throwback Weekend at Darlington are not far away. The action takes place for the Cup Series on May 12 with a weekend of fun for fans and drivers in store.

Kyle Larson gets to honor a legend

What makes these throwback designs so special is the ability to connect generations of NASCAR. Fans, drivers, crew members, and others – it helps as a reminder of where the sport has been and where it is currently.

Terry Labonte is an icon. He was a two-time champion and one of the stars of the sport for many years. Now Larson, a current star and champion of the sport, is honoring him with this throwback look. And it isn’t every day that Larson gets an alternative scheme.

I think Labonte is just as honored to have Larson driving that car as Larson is to drive it. To put things into perspective, Labonte had 22 wins in 890 starts in the Cup Series. Larson has 24 wins in just 341 races.

The Kellogg’s car is one of the most recognizable in NASCAR history. The HendrickCars.com version of the design looks almost as good. Kyle Larson x Terry Labonte – two eras of the sport coming together to give us a fun paint scheme for a really fun weekend at Darlington.
