Since the introduction of the Next-Gen cars, poor short track racing product has been a big topic of discussion in the racing community. The new cars makes passing really hard on the small ovals, and this coupled with lack of tier wear, dirty air issues and traffic issues makes it really impossible to have an entertaining race.
Drivers and teams has been seeking major changes over tiers, engine power and more from NASCAR. The sanctioning body has tested multiple tweaks including changing diffuser, new tier compounds and multiple aero-tweaks to make racing better. But nothing has worked so far and many including reigning champion Ryan Blaney finds it disappointing.
The Team Penske No:22 Ford Mustang driver has pointed out that NASCAR has to make some drastic changes to make racing better at such tracks. He pointed out that he don’t know what is the path that should be taken, but said that he sees maybe changing even ride height of the cars as a plausible solution.
We just haven’t really been able to find that and I don’t know. I mean, it’s time for like drastic, drastic changes. And we thought the diffuser — taking it off was a drastic change, but it just wasn’t. I don’t know where you go from here. You have to maybe completely change the ride height of these cars, possibly. Ryan Blaney addresses complaints from NASCAR fans
The champion highlighted the need of immediate and rational change. He highlighted the criticism that has come from the fans., alongside from drivers, over the poor race product they have been consuming in the last few seasons.
…but it’s kind of getting to a time we got to get this better because gosh, I see people complaining about it, fans and the outside world complain about us like, ‘Hey, we dislike it as much as y’all. We don’t like it either. Ryan Blaney said.
Blaney’s teammate and two times Cup champion, Joey Logano has recently given a same verdict and suggesting, by urging NASCAR to make big changes to short track racing package. The sanctioning body has to listen to it’s drivers and make the changes, as poot short track racing is an issue that shouldn’t be overlooked.
